Project leaders believe St. Clair County soon will submit an application to the Federal Highway Administration to justify the construction of a $15 million, Interstate 64 interchange at Rieder Road east of O'Fallon.
The St. Clair County Highway Department hosted an informational meeting Thursday at MidAmerica Airport to get public comments for the application and answer concerns of residents, St. Clair County Engineer Darrell Cates said.
If approved, the new interchange would be built between Illinois 158 and Illinois 4 and provide a direct access on Wherry Road to the northeastern corner of Scott Air Force Base and a road for commercial traffic to MidAmerica Airport.
