Tim Vizer started at the Belleville News-Democrat as a photographer in 1987 and since 1989 has been chief photographer. Prior to working here, Vizer was assistant director of photography at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, a photographer for the Sunday Courier-Press in Evansville, Ind., and a
photographer at the Collinsville Herald while attending college as a mass communications major at SIUE. He is a member of the Associated Press Photo Managers group and is the on-site chairman for that group's 2009 national convention in St. Louis. He is a faculty member on the Illinois Press Foundation's High School Journalism Workshop and has won numerous awards for his photography.
