It was a forgettable trip to Farmington, Mo., for the Belleville East Lancers, who wound up on the wrong end of a 35-2 score.
"They had a short field all night," Belleville East coach Tim Funk said after his team fell to 1-1. "We couldn't get any first downs, and we couldn't block anybody. Famirngton (2-0) intercepted a pass on the Lancers' second play from scrimmage, setting up a touchdown. They scored again on a punt return for another score and the rout was on.
Farmington, which led 27-0 at halftime, also recovered a short kick and used that to set up another TD.
Belleville East got 89 yards rushing from Kevin Gettis and finished with 111 yards of total offense. Funk said senior running back Jamon Bester was held out of the game for disciplinary reasons, but also had an ankle injury.
Two Belleville East quarterbacks were a combined 0-for-8 passing with an interception.
"They dominated every facet of the game," Funk said.
East's lone points came when the Farmington quarterback was tackled in the end zone for a second-half safety.
