Q. Can you explain why sunrise and sunset times, which usually change almost daily, seem to stall at this time of year? For example, the earliest sunset occurs from Dec. 1-12 while the latest sunrise occurs from Dec. 30 to Jan. 10. What gives?

Q. I was born just before midnight on New Year's Eve 1952. Back in those day, the first New Year's baby was given many gifts and recognition for the special birth date, so I missed out on those. On the other hand, my dad received a tax deduction. Can you tell me (in dollars) just how happy this deduction may have made my dad?

Q. I know this is a long shot, but with your last name and location, I had to give it a try. I am helping a friend trace her family tree. I found a document about her great-great-great-great-grandfather David Phillips, who was a Revolutionary War veteran from North Carolina. He moved to the Belleville area, where he died in 1826. The document stated that he is buried at the Victor Schlueter farm in Belleville, and a marker was placed at his grave site by the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution in 2002. I have been unable to locate a Victor Schlueter anywhere in Illinois. I am hoping he might be a relative of yours.

Hey, who better than the Answer Man himself to give us his annual Christmas Trivia Quiz? Sit back, grab an eggnog, take off your Santa's hat and put on your thinking cap, and see what you know (and what you don't ...)

Q. I'm 70 years old and remember a comic strip called Pogo. Around Christmas each year, the animals from the swamp would gather and sing a version of "Deck the Halls." I can only recall some of the words: "Deck the halls with Boston Charlie, what a lot of wash in Kalamazoo," etc. Can you find the complete words to the song? I'd appreciate it.

Q. I would like to volunteer my time on Christmas Day this year. When I was young, my mother would take me to Althoff High School, where the Belleville Catholic Diocese would serve food and give presents to the less fortunate. I am not sure if they still do it. Can you please help me find somewhere that would be interested in having some help? It is a tradition that I would like to continue with my son.
